Self Directing your IRA

A self-directed IRA, is a special type of retirement account that is becoming increasingly popular within the real estate investment community.

Similar to other retirement accounts, self-directed IRAs can invest in stocks, bonds and mutual funds, but they can also invest in things like rental properties, private loans, small businesses and other assets.

To open a Self-Directed IRA account an owner must hire a custodian to help manage and administer the account.

We often times will use our own Self-Directed IRA accounts for long-term investments and typically generate higher returns than the stock market. The best part about this method of investing? If you use a Roth Self-Directed IRA, all future investments are typically tax-free!

There are many custodians out there who can manage your account. Be sure to get referrals and ask about their various fees for set-up, managing the account and individual transactions to make sure you work with the team who can best suit your needs.
